Security systems such as surveillance cameras and financial tracking databases discourage would-be criminals from breaking the law, as they are aware of the ease with which they may be tracked, caught, and prosecuted(起诉). Also, new breakthroughs in DNA testing and computer simulations have made it easier to reconstruct crime scenes and identify criminals. (转折)However, the issue with this argument is that not all criminals are dissuaded(劝阻) by the knowledge of these systems, and while they do increase the likelihood of catching people who have committed crimes, these technological improvements do not necessarily prevent the crimes themselves from occurring.
03、(递进)It should also be noted that new improvements in technology have made it easier for so-called white-collar crime to take place. The theft of money and information through hacking of computer databases, demanding ransom(赎金) from companies whose servers are hijacked through the infection of intranets with viruses, and transactions of illicit(非法的) goods and services using digital currencies have all become more commonplace due to new technologies. Take for example the high-profile case of the Silk Road website(丝路网), a private internet domain that was used by drug dealers and other criminal entrepreneurs to sell their goods and services. This highly illegal site was only made possible thanks to the advent of the cryptocurrency(加密货币) Bitcoin, which was the primary means of exchange on the site. Therefore, with new technology, new crimes and ways of committing crime are given life.
