Some people think that it is more beneficial to take part in sports which are played in teams, like football. But others think taking part in individual sports is better, like swimming. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
1. Some people argue that the fittest and strongest individuals and teams can achieve the greatest success in sports. But other people think the success is much related to the mental attitude. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
2. Team/group activities can teach more important skills for life than those activities which are played alone. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (/9/29)
3. Some countries achieve international sporting success by building specialized facilities to train top athletes instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
4. The best way to teach children to cooperate is through team sports at school. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (/11/4)
5. The government should spend money in promoting sport and art in school, rather than sponsoring professional sports and art events in communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Are activities played as a team like football and basketball more beneficial to us than those played individually like swimming and tennis? The answer, I think, depends on what kind of benefits we are talking about.
Activities that are played alone can develop our sense of self-reliance and responsibility. This is because in such activities, success is entirely a matter of personal efforts, and we will have to learn to rely on ourselves and face the consequences of our own decisions and action. Furthermore, playing alone means that we must motivate ourselves as there is no team pressure and there is nobody else to blame for our failure. Further still, we can perhaps derive more happiness and satisfaction from our success in individual sports, and this sense of self-recognition is essential in our work and life.
Team sports can teach at least three skills that will benefit us forever. The social aspect of team activities might be what appeals to us in the first place. Participation in such activities gives us an opportunity to spend time with others in a learning environment and practice our social skills. Secondly, by learning to positively handle the winning and losing outcome in team activities, we can develop our fair-play sportsmanship, a quality extremely important throughout our lifetime. Thirdly, team activities will help us understand the value of cooperation. We will get to know that working as a team is key to success in life, though this sometimes might involve personal sacrifices.
To conclude, though team activities can teach us many beneficial lessons, we can learn another set of equally beneficial lessons from solo activities. It is, therefore, very unlikely for us to reach a consensus of opinion as to which kind of activities is more beneficial than the other.

Some people say that the main aim of advertising is to improve the sales of products that people do not really need.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Introduction
Advertising has been an integral part of our economic and social life now. However, as a powerful technique of promoting sales, it has been censured by some people for its “main aim”: to encourage shoppers to buy unnecessary goods. I tend to think that this view presents a very one-sided picture of advertising.
Body Paragraph 1
The commentary is understandable that advertising creates unconscious desires. People holding this view may ascribe their over-consumption to advertisers’ exaggerated claims of their marketing pitches, which means advertising puts goods in a positive light, creating unrealistic expectations, all for the benefit of selling. Enticed by these messages, consumers would buy goods of little or no value to themselves on impulse, be it a new cell phone or a massage armchair.
ascribe … to …
Body Paragraph 2
To persuade potential customers through evoking their psychological appeals, indeed, is one objective of advertising. However, I would argue that there is a controversy in what constitutes necessities versus non-essentials. This ambiguous notion is changing, along with the change in generations. To explain, what seems nonessential now – a massage armchair, for example – may fulfill its function years later, whereas what seems required now – a cell phone, for example – may soon lose its value if operating systems suddenly upgrade.
evoke 唤醒 v.
psychological appeals
controversy 争议 n.
Body Paragraph 3
My firm conviction is that the real objective of advertising is to promote effective communication between producers and consumers. When a new product is to be introduced in the market, producers create memorable advertising campaigns that boost brans recognition, from which potential customers can be informed more about product advantages and know what suits their requirements and budget. Not only that, advertising helps maintain the demand for existing products and services.
introduce 引入v.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would say that the main aim of advertising is to prepare a ground for the sales of products, but we cannot affirm that the promoted goods are unnecessary.
prepare a ground for 为…打基础
affirm 断言v.
