  When we learn a foreign language, all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are equally important. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  01、Language acquisition, especially the second language acquisition, is never a pure cognitive process. So, the abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing are considered to have the same weight. I do not agree with this view.

  解析

  Ø 一般题目当中若有意义的表达就不作为我们的立场选择。该题中的equally有化表述的倾向;

  Ø weight:权重

  02、The core function of language lies in communication, which inevitably leads to the procedures of processing and response to the input (listening and reading) and output (speaking and writing) of information respectively. Therefore, many language learners are convinced that people need to give the same level of attention to these four skills in order to achieveproficiency in the language they are learning. However, despite its rationality, this opinion cannot be discussed metaphysically.

  解析

  Ø 稍作让步(尽管语言重在交流,因此听说读写的权重要等同),然后立马驳斥(这种观点脱离了实际);

  03、Realistically, it is generally only language majors and those people working in the language industry that devote a significant amount of time to language learning. A much larger number of people may only study languages for specific working purposes. It would be an overkill to give the same weight to these four competencies. For example, in a foreign company whose main business is mechanical engineering, many professionals do not have to speak English fluently, as the public might think, but rather, being able to read designs and reply emails well is enough to get the job done. So, spending time to improve listening or speaking may just be the icing on the cake but not materially help to advance their work; instead, they need to put more efforts on reading and writing. By the same token, listening and speaking are more important to a qualified international tour guide than reading and writing, because these two language skills are relatively more interactive and better suited to the realities of the job.

  解析

  开始正式反驳:大多数人的语言学习是为特定的目的而服务,而非单纯的语言能力水平的;

  icing on the cake: 锦上添花

   materially:实质上

  04、In general, listening, reading, writing and speaking are four skills that can are crucial to language acquisition, but they must also be considered in accordance with the effectiveness of the learning process in certain situation.

  Some people say that the main aim of advertising is to improve the sales of products that people do not really need.

  To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  Introduction

  Advertising has been an integral part of our economic and social life now. However, as a powerful technique of promoting sales, it has been censured by some people for its “main aim”: to encourage shoppers to buy unnecessary goods. I tend to think that this view presents a very one-sided picture of advertising.

  Body Paragraph 1

  The commentary is understandable that advertising creates unconscious desires. People holding this view may ascribe their over-consumption to advertisers’ exaggerated claims of their marketing pitches, which means advertising puts goods in a positive light, creating unrealistic expectations, all for the benefit of selling. Enticed by these messages, consumers would buy goods of little or no value to themselves on impulse, be it a new cell phone or a massage armchair.

  ascribe … to …

  Body Paragraph 2

  To persuade potential customers through evoking their psychological appeals, indeed, is one objective of advertising. However, I would argue that there is a controversy in what constitutes necessities versus non-essentials. This ambiguous notion is changing, along with the change in generations. To explain, what seems nonessential now – a massage armchair, for example – may fulfill its function years later, whereas what seems required now – a cell phone, for example – may soon lose its value if operating systems suddenly upgrade.

  evoke 唤醒 v.

  psychological appeals

  controversy 争议 n.

  Body Paragraph 3

  My firm conviction is that the real objective of advertising is to promote effective communication between producers and consumers. When a new product is to be introduced in the market, producers create memorable advertising campaigns that boost brans recognition, from which potential customers can be informed more about product advantages and know what suits their requirements and budget. Not only that, advertising helps maintain the demand for existing products and services.

  introduce 引入v.

  Conclusion

  In conclusion, I would say that the main aim of advertising is to prepare a ground for the sales of products, but we cannot affirm that the promoted goods are unnecessary.

  prepare a ground for 为…打基础

  affirm 断言v.
